Destination: South East Asia

Burma (Myanmar), Cambodia, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam are equally renowned for their unique fusion of South Asian and East Asian cultural traditions, and for the peoples' natural sense of hospitality, generosity and charm - strongly influenced by Buddhist values. There is scope here for exploring Buddhist and Hindu temples, trekking off the beaten track in remote tribal areas, or relaxing in secluded beach resorts. Trans Himalaya offer multi-centre itineraries throughout the Southeast Asian region. In Thailand the highlights include the palaces and temple complexes of the three capital cities-- Bangkok, Ayuthaya and Sukhothai, as well as the tribal hill stations north of Chiang Mai. In Cambodia, we focus on Siem Reap and Phnom Penh, exploring the magnificent monuments and stone sculpture of Khmer Art at Angkor Wat and related temple complexes. Then, in Burma we visit the fabled Buddhist cities of Mandalay and Bagan, and the enormous golden stupa at Swedagon in Yangon. In landlocked Laos the main attractions are the temple cities of Luang Prabang and Vientiane, while Vietnam has outstanding cultural heritage sites at the imperial city of Hue, in Hoi An, and Nga Trang. French imperial influence is still found in Dalat and Hanoi, and there are lesiurely sailing excursions in Halong Bay.
